Directions from the south

M6 North West then M6 J35, 1st exit off motorway junction roundabout signed A601(M) Carnforth, Morecambe, Milnthorpe (A6)

A601(M) for about 1 mile to J35A, 2nd exit off roundabout, signed A6 Milnthorpe.

A6 for about ¾ mile, turn right signed A6070 Burton-in-Kendal.

A6070 north for about 2½ miles, just after the 30mph signs on entering the village of Burton-in-Kendal turn right up Dalton Lane, signed Hutton Roof & Kirkby Lonsdale.

Up Dalton Lane past the Dalton Hall Business Centre with clock tower, up the hill, past (ignore) a left turning signed Dalton, continue up the hill, the woodland burial ground is now on your left hand side, the car parking area is a few 100 yards on your left hand side on the southern edge of the triangular Lime Kiln Plantation. PLEASE double park to save space.

Directions from the north

M6 South then M6 J36, 1st exit off motorway junction roundabout signed A65 Kirkby Lonsdale & Skipton.

A65 for 200 yards to small roundabout, 3rd exit signed A6070 Burton-in-Kendal & Holme.

A6070 south for about 4 miles, go through village of Burton-in-Kendal (shops, pub and square) and just before leaving the village turn left up Dalton Lane, signed Hutton Roof & Kirkby Lonsdale.

Visiting or attending a Burial

Visitors enter the Dalton Woodland Burial Ground at their own risk and should recognise that they need to take care on uneven and possibly muddy or slippery ground; suitable footwear such as sturdy shoes, Walking or Wellington boots should be worn.

Please use common sense and avoid the woodland in storms or periods of high winds.

Because of the natural topography of the site disabled access is in places limited please contact the Estate Office for assistance with your visit; we are only too happy to help.

The nearest lavatory is at the rear of the Dalton Hall Business Centre and the nearest disabled lavatory is at The Stable Yard, Dalton Hall

Before visiting please take time to read and understand the Regulations for this burial ground and which will also give you details of the Padlock PIN needed to access the main gates.

The Dalton Woodland Burial Ground can be visited any time between dawn and dusk (one hour before sunrise – one hour after sunset)

Rail & Bus Services

Stations are at Carnforth which is 10 minutes drive away with hourly trains through to Manchester (1 hour 15 minutes) and at Oxenholme Lake District on the Virgin Trains West Coast Main Line (30 minutes drive) giving services to London Euston (3 hours), and both Glasgow and Edinburgh (2 hours). Burton-in-Kendal is on the 555 / 556 Stagecoach bus route (Lancaster – Keswick) and there is a bus stop where Dalton Lane joins the A6070 Main Street.
